We are OPEN for the 2020 summer season!
We appreciate your patience as we worked to open the club back up. The nets are up and the season is beginning!

The application can be found at the bottom of this page.
Tennis might just be the best thing you can do to extend your life.
A new study from Denmark, published just last week by Peter Schnohr and colleagues, shows that playing tennis may extend your life by nearly 10 years. That's a remarkably big benefit...”

Cesar Leon, Lauren Koczwara and Bill Aubrey winners at Lackawanna Open.

Leon, a teaching pro at the Leeds Academy in the Bronx, NY, defeated Eamon Gibbons, a collegiate player at Hamilton College, 6-1, 6-3 to repeat as the Men's A Singles champion. Koczwara, a regional high school all-star from Abington Heights, knocked off Scranton Prep ace Megan McDonald in a tight contest, winning 6-3, 2-6, (10-2) to take the Women's A Singles title. In Men's B Singles Bill Aubrey defended his title from last year, edging out Johnny Sinclair 3-6, 6-4, (10-6).

Koczwara and Leon were both double winners in the tournament. Koczwara paired up with her teammate Bella Peters to defend their Women's A Doubles title with a 6-0, 6-1 win over McDonald and Kathleen McKenna. Leon and his brother Michael teamed up again to take the Men's A Doubles crown with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Meade and Josh Palmer.

In the semifinals the Leon brothers eliminated John Weiss and Curtis Althouse 6-0.6-1, while the Palmers defeated Steve Lehan and Paul Pugliese 6-4, 6-1.

Joe Vinson and his son Kevin took the Men's B Doubles crown with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, (10-6) win over Raj Paul and Vignesh Manickam.

The Best Match of the Tournament
A few folks said I was remiss in not mentioning the most competitive match of the tournament, a first round Men's A Doubles match between the team of Phil Mercurio and James Linder and the team of Dante Terenzio and Jack Lennox. Every set of the match was a tiebreaker, with Mercurio and Linder winning the first set tiebreaker 10-8. Terenzio and Lennox fought off four set points against them to win the second set 9-7, and then won the third set tiebreaker 10-7. There were a lot of great exchanges, and excellent tennis from both teams.

John Weiss and Burt Reese were co-directors of the tournament, with great assistance from Kathleen McKenna, Tim Aikman, John Lucas , and Gary Riegal.

The draws are attached. The next tournament at the club will take place in two weeks, when we have the STC Mixed Doubles Championship and 55 and Over Singles event. These events are for club members only. A sign-up sheet will be posted shortly on the tournament board at the club.
