FREE FOR ALL STC MEMBERS! Our Labor Day Blind Draw Mixed Doubles tournament is Monday, September 2 starting at 9 am. This is a fun social event, where your partner is chosen at random and you play with him/her for the morning. It's a round robin format, so you get to play at least three times. The top performers in the various groups get to move on to the semifinals. There are prizes for the finalists.
All players are asked to show up at 8:45 am so we can do the draw. If you want to warm up, please arrive earlier than 8:45 am. There is no entry fee for members, $10 for guests. Preliminary matches usually last until 12 noon, with the playoffs lasting another hour.
Sign up today on the bulletin board at the club or contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Come join the fun! A few tickets remain for STC's annual bus trip to the US Open on Wednesday, August 28. We will be leaving the Scranton Tennis Club parking lot at approximately 7:30 am and leaving the Open at 7:00 pm, getting back to the STC at around 10 pm. In addition to providing a reserved seat in Arthur Ashe Stadium and an all-courts pass, we will be serving a light breakfast of bagels, donuts, coffee and juice starting at 7 am. There will also be snacks and bottled water for what is usually a fairly hot day. The cost is $120 for STC members, $130 for guests. We will be boarding the bus in the order that tickets were sold, so get your reservation in as soon as possible. Put your check in an envelope and mark it "US Open bus trip" and deposit in the lockbox on the STC porch or mail to PO Box 678, Clarks Summit, PA 18411.
Look forward to seeing you on the trip!
Below are the draws and starting times for all six of the divisions in the Lackawanna County Open, which will be played at the Scranton Tennis Club this weekend. There will be limited play on Thursday evening, with more matches scheduled on Friday and over the weekend.
Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled time, in case a court opens up earlier than expected.
If there is rain over the weekend, we may play a few matches indoors. You will be notified via email if that is the case.
Here are the tournament rules:
All matches will be best 2 out of 3 sets, with 7-point tiebreaker at 6-6 in any set. If sets are tied at 1-1, a 10-point tiebreaker will be played to decide the third set. Regular scoring (deuces and ads) will be used. In case of rain, we may use no-add scoring or 8-game pro sets in the preliminary rounds.
A luncheon will be provided for all players on Saturday, July 13 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.
Look forward to seeing you all this weekend!John Weiss, Tournament Co-Director
